Term 1 Sports Wrap

2011 Term 1 Sports and Camps Wrap

Hi all,

Term 1 has flown by and looking back we have crammed heaps of sport, camps and outdoor activities into 11 weeks.

We have very fit and active kids at Arrowtown School with a high number of kids involved in a multitude of different sports.

Next term we are going to focus on “winning well and losing well” with our sport.

Camps

We had 3 very successful camps this term. The year 6’s went to Macetown, the year 7’s to Pukerau and the 8’s had an overnight teambuilding camp (their main camp is Deep Cove in December). A big thanks to all the parents and teachers who helped making them a success. We are very grateful for all the parental support we get with our sport and camps.

Rippa Rugby

We had a great day of Rippa Rugby at the Central Otago finals in Cromwell on Tuesday. Congratulations to the Arrowtown Red team who won the year 3/4 section. Also Congratulations to the Arrowtown Lions who were runners up in the year 5/6 section. Both of these teams go on to the Otago wide finals at Carisbrook, Dunedin, in term 3.

A very commendable effort also to the Arrowtown Pumas and Fords, who made it to the semi-finals, and played very well.

Touch Rugby

We had 160 kids playing touch this term on Monday nights at the Events Centre.

Thanks to all the parents who helped run a team this term. Touch starts again in term 4.

Netball

We have 10 teams for this year’s competition starting next term. Thank you to all the coaches, managers and committee members who are doing a lot of work to ensure the kids are well prepared ready to go.

Swimming

We had 32 kids from Arrowtown School at the Otago champs in Dunedin, the largest group from all Otago schools. We had some very creditable results too. A big thanks to Jeanette Horn who managed the team in Dunedin.

High Flyers

Gabby White – Otago Club Champion in Under 9 100m Breast stroke

Alex Hull – Otago Club Champion in Under 10 50m Breast stroke

The under 9 team of Zoe Hart, Kate Crawford, Lydia Richards, Gabby White – 3rd in Otago schools champs.

Triathlon

Our school triathlon was very successful with nearly all our year 5 to 8 kids taking part.

75 of our kids went to the Central Otago Champs and performed very well.

Medals went to Poppy Brinsley, bronze, in the year 7 and 8 girls and the “Crocodiles” yr 5 and 6 boys – Jono Stewart, Xavier Sadler and Jonathan Currie who got silver.
